About Me

Hi, I’m Sara (pronounced Sara) and I live in Stoke-on-Trent, UK with my husband and two sons. I’ve been vegan for five years and passionate about food for most of my adult life! Green Genie Recipes is the product of my love of vegan food. What can you expect to see here? You’ll mainly be seeing my own recipes, along with restaurant and product reviews. Although this is a vegan blog, I want everyone to enjoy it: whether you’re a new or seasoned vegan, looking to cut down on your meat intake or just love great food, you are welcome here!

Why vegan? There are many reasons why people are opting for a vegan lifestyle, or just cutting down their meat intake. Whether its for health, the environment or the animals I’m always over the moon to hear that more and more people are incorporating vegan meals into their diet. For me, I became vegan as a logical next step after four years as a vegetarian. My motivation has always been animal welfare, and the environmental impact is a fantastic bonus. One thing I’m not motivated by is health. If you are, more power to you! I, however, am a junk food fiend! You can expect to see a mixture of recipes here, healthy or otherwise…

What else can I tell you about me? I’m 32, and although I had a brief (and much loved) career as a further education teacher, I’ve spent most of my adult life as a carer to my eldest son, Connor. Connor is almost 15 and has autism and severe learning difficulties. Caring for him is challenging, to say the least, but I wouldn’t change a thing about him. I also live with my husband of three years, Steve, my six-year-old son Frankie, and our cats, Rosie, Zelda and Carrie. You will most likely be hearing more about them, especially Frankie’s antics! I love to share snapshots of my youngest son’s savage wit. A particular favourite of mine is when he recently told me, “The good new is I’m going to behave myself today. The bad news is… your face is the bad news!” Thanks, son!

As well as cooking, eating and thinking about food, I spend most of my time working on my small business: my own brand of handmade vegan nail polish, Dystopia Nail Polish (credit to Jemma @jemzxo for the above photo of my polish Gold Dust Woman). I am also and avid reader, massive music fan and occasional crafter!

Please follow the blog to see future posts and be sure to visit the Facebook and Instagram profiles too 🙂

Final thought: a massive thank you to my talented niece Aimee who designed my awesome logo!
